The Vanderburgh County Commissioners passed a ban on open burning for all unincorporated areas of the county tonight.

Citing extreme fire danger, Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hilkey imposed a ban on open burning that takes effect today. The ban covers the unincorporated areas of Mesa County and the incorporated areas of the city of Grand Junction.

On June 24, the Elbert Board of County Commissioners, at the recommendation of the Elbert County Fire Chiefs Association, downgraded the county wide burn ban for all unincorporated areas of Elbert County back to a Stage I level.
